Ateneo PolSci Bloggers

About the Site

Why am I so interested in politics? But if I were to answer you very simply, I would say this: why shouldn’t I be interested? That is to say, what blindness, what deafness, what density of ideology would have to weigh me down to prevent me from being interested in what is probably the most crucial subject to our existence, that is to say the society in which we live, the economics relations within which it functions, and the system of power which defines the regular forms and the regular permissions and prohibitions of our conduct? The essence of our life consists, after all, of the political functioning of the society in which we find ourselves. -Michel Foucault

Spaces of Resistance is a collaborative political blog from Political Science majors in the Ateneo de Manila University. This site, whose title is derived from a recurring concept of critical thought and action in modern political theory, aims to offer fresh political commentaries with a distinctive Political Science flavor–that is, clearly framed in theory yet methodological in perusing empirical data, and ultimately directed at actual engagement and meaningful participation. Simply put, this blog is borne out of passion for politics itself and shall be built on the exigency of struggling for Knowledge. As a collaborative project, the goal is not to forward a unitary opinion on all issues. Rather, what is being pursued is the creation of a modern polis: a space for contesting dominant structures, ideologies, and exchanging viewpoints and insights.

Our very humanity beckons us to create ideas within the context of our history; thus our response shall be that of carrying out the responsibility to the Truth by ensuring that the space of discourse shall not be kept silent and dark. Join us in fueling the fire and clanging the bells of resistance.
